Watchdog: Facebook, Twitter must localize databases by Jul 1

MOSCOW, May 26 (PRIME) -- Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks must localize bases of data of Russian users by July 1 and report on the progress to the communications service, the authority’s Deputy Director Milosh Vagner said on Wednesday.

“By July 1, 2021, social networks Facebook, Twitter, and others must ensure the localization of bases of data of Russian users in the Russian Federation,” Vagner said.

In case of misbehavior, social networks will face fines up to 18 million rubles. Vagner said more than 600 foreign companies have already localized databases.
